During the Summer of 2015, Sofia started complaining of back pain. Due to her young age and horseback riding history, doctors dismissed it as a passing discomfort - no diagnosis testing was ordered.
As the pain got progressively worse, we searched for traditional and alternative pain relief for Sofia. Starting on January 21st, Sofia began a series of diagnostic testing including her first MRI of the Thoracic Spine, as ordered by a Stamford chiropractor who suspected that something was wrong.
On January 22nd, during an emergency trip to New York Presbiterian's pediatric ER, Sofia had a third MRI and a biopsy. We arranged a follow up with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York City, when she was officially diagnosed with EWING SARCOMA on January 27, 2016. Her treatment of chemotherapy began on February 9, 2016.
The good news was that there is no spinal cord damage, her spine is intact and the mass has not spread to other parts of her body including her bone marrow. The better news is she is being treated by the most amazing team at MSKCC. The best news is that Sofia is ready to #FIGHTLIKEAWARRIOR
